JetBrains has spent this year unbundling IntelliJ's language smarts from the IDE itself. The LSP-based extension lets editors like VS Code and Cursor — and the agents driving them — tap that Java and Kotlin analysis without running the full product. Reaching RC means the API surface is settling rather than shifting under you. If you've kept IntelliJ open purely for its refactorings while living in another editor, this is the release to watch. The stable 1.0 is expected shortly.
