GitHub Copilot finishes rolling out Kimi K3, its second open-weight model

  • Shipped

GitHub flipped Kimi K3 to general availability on August 6, finishing a rollout it had paused mid-flight while it cleaned up a GitHub Actions incident. It's an open-weight model from Moonshot AI — 2.8 trillion parameters, a one-million-token context window — and GitHub is hosting it on Fireworks rather than routing to a first-party endpoint. Pricing lands at $3 per million input tokens, $15 per million output, and $0.30 per million cached input, which is aggressive for something aiming at frontier-level agentic coding. This is the second open-weight option in Copilot after Kimi K2.7 shipped in July, and the rollout has the usual enterprise asterisk: it reaches Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise, but it's off by default on the two org tiers. If you're on a Business or Enterprise seat and don't see it, that's expected — an admin has to enable the Kimi K3 policy in Copilot settings before anyone can pick it.
