EU AI Act July 22 Signatory Deadline Precedes August 2 Enforcement — €15M Fines on the Line

  • Deadline
  • Action required
  • High importance

The date that matters most right now isn't August 2 — it's July 22. That's when the EU AI Office closes the signatory form for the first cohort of Code of Practice participants under Article 50. Companies that sign get a presumption of conformity with the transparency obligations: chatbot disclosure, deepfake labeling, the works. Those that miss it face the enforcement window without that shield, and the fines run to €15 million or 3% of global annual turnover. Signing is the obvious move for any company building chatbots or generating AI content at scale. The Digital Omnibus amendments agreed in May are expected to land in the Official Journal this month, which may tighten the timeline further. If your legal team hasn't already submitted the signatory form, eleven days is not a lot of runway.
