The switch reflects what people were already choosing. Usage data from shadcn/create showed Base UI winning new projects at a 2-to-1 clip, so the team made it the default and updated the docs to open component pages on the Base UI tab — Radix is still one click away. Both libraries remain fully supported and will receive every update and new component going forward. Base UI is built by the same people who built Radix, with the benefit of several years of hindsight on where the original API fell short. Switching the default is a soft endorsement of where that team thinks the abstraction should land, not a deprecation notice. Projects already on Radix have no action to take.
