The EU Digital Omnibus reached provisional agreement to amend the AI Act's timeline in two ways. Stand-alone systems covered by Annex III high-risk obligations get a new target of December 2, 2027. AI embedded in products regulated under Annex I get pushed further to August 2, 2028. The amendment also adds a new Article 5 prohibition on AI-generated non-consensual intimate imagery. August 2, 2026 is not a free pass — the Article 50 transparency requirements (disclosing AI system use to end users) still take effect on that date. Formal adoption and publication in the Official Journal is expected before August 2. If your compliance calendar was organized around a single August date, now is the time to split it into two tracks.
