Databricks opens its summit with a bigger Agent Bricks and Unity AI Gateway

  • Announced

Databricks kicked off Data + AI Summit in San Francisco on June 16, and the keynote leaned hard into agents sitting on top of the warehouse. Agent Bricks is being pitched now as a comprehensive platform for developers building agents against their data, rather than the narrower offering it launched as. Alongside it, Unity AI Gateway adds a single governance layer spanning AI assets both on Databricks and externally hosted — the same Unity Catalog story the company tells about data, now pointed at models and agents. There's a partnership headline too: SpaceX's Grok models will be available natively on Databricks. As with most summit keynotes, separate the shipped from the staged before you plan around any of it — but the direction is unambiguous, and it's the same one Snowflake is racing toward. Whoever owns the agent layer above your tables owns a lot.
