The headline in 1.0.56 is small but welcome: Free and Student accounts can finally choose a model in the picker instead of being pinned to Auto, and the picker now shows the real context-window size for each pricing tier. Everything else is cleanup — and there's a lot of it. Config and settings files are now written atomically, which kills a data-loss window when two CLI processes run at once; the reasoning-effort picker hides options a model can't actually do; and `web_fetch` now prefers markdown when a page offers it. If you live in the terminal there are quieter wins too, like extended-key reporting working under tmux when the Kitty keyboard protocol isn't available.
